Federal Supply Code 5310, Nuts and Washers, encompasses various types of nuts and washers, including specifically designed ones. Nuts are small metal blocks made in a variety of shapes and are drilled and internally threaded. Washers are perforated pieces of metal, leather, or other material, used as seats for bolts, nuts, screws, rivets, and nails to evenly distribute pressure and prevent endwise motion and movement between parts. FSC 5310 includes locknuts; eye nuts; plain nuts; castellated nuts; wing nuts; plate nuts; push-on nuts; concave and convex washers; flat washers; keyed washers; lock washers; shouldered washers; and split washers.
