Federal Supply Code 5330, Packing and Gasket Materials, encompasses seals and gaskets designed for standard use. Packing and gasket seals are made from materials specifically designed and constructed to resist deterioration from heat, gas, chemicals, and liquids, and are used to fill a cavity and create a tight seal. FSC 5330 includes general purpose oil grease, air, liquid, gas, and chemical seals; oakum; and prefabricated gaskets and seals specifically designed for an application. Note that FSC 5330 does not include O-rings, bulk material items used to create the seals such as rubber, cork, and asbestos; liquid gasket materials; RFI and EMI seals and gaskets; and seal retainers.
