Federal Supply Code 5365, Bushings, Rings, Shims, and Spacers, encompasses all types of bushings, rings, shims, and spacers, including specifically designed ones. Bushings are hollow cylinders designed to be inserted into a hole to reduce the inner diameter of the hole, and to protect the structure around the hole from stress, strain, and vibration induced damage. Rings are multi-application flat cylinders with center holes. Shims are thin, sometimes tapered, pieces of material that are used to fill in space between things. Spacers are devices used to hold two items at a certain distance from each other. FSC 5365 includes sleeve bushings; machine threaded bushings; externally threaded rings; keyed and serrated lock rings; dee rings; instrument retaining rings; shim sets and assortments; plate spacers; ring spacers; sleeve spacers; stepped spacers; spacer sets and assortments; and machine threaded plugs. Note that FSC 5365 does not include sleeve bearings; pipe threaded plugs; piston rings; retaining rings; or shim stock. For sleeve bearings, see FSG 31. For pipe threaded plugs, see FSG 47. For piston rings see FSGs 25, 28, 29, 30, 43 and 48. For retaining rings, see FSC 5325. For shim stock, see FSG 95.
